Create An Interview Guide **Must Pass Turnitin**

During the first week of class you conducted your first practice interview.  You have since had the opportunity to learn about the formal process of interviewing and the techniques used in interviewing. With this new information in mind, it is time to develop a detailed plan for your second interview, which you may conduct face-to-face or over the telephone. Your second interview is broken down into two parts. The first portion, preparing for the interview, is due this week The second part of this assignment, conducting and analyzing the interview, is due week 5

For this week you will be completing A. You will need to:Locate a Volunteer:
He/she will play the role of “client” seeking help for persistent headaches and problems sleeping. The person you interview can be someone you know personally or you can contact your classmates through the Student Lounge to arrange to interview one another. The client believes that stress may be part of the problem with his/her symptoms.  Remember that this is a role play, and your volunteer should be aware that this is a practice interview and not a real psychological interview. Prior to conducting your interview, ask your volunteer to think about stress that s/he can discuss related to the client’s problems (e.g., your client may think about stress from a job or stress related to a relationship with a significant other). However, DO NOT have your volunteer discuss this stress with you prior to the interview. You want to be able to explore this topic in depth during your interview. This scenario is intentionally left open-ended in order to allow students to maximize opportunity to utilize interview skills during the interview.Create an Interview Guide:In order to achieve a quality interview, you will need to first plan your interview, which is this week’s assignment (you will conduct and analyze the interview in Module 5). The purpose of your interview is to gather in-depth information to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning for the client.  You will need to gather detailed information about the symptoms being reported for both headaches and sleep problems (e.g., How often are the headaches occurring?  How long do they last?  What do they feel like?  Has any treatment helped?  Is there any pattern to the headaches?).  You will also need to present a complete picture of the patient.  What is the patient’s gender, age, marital status, and employment status?  Be sure to go beyond these example questions, and provide an in-depth, highly detailed interview with your client.

Interview Guide Topics
The Interview Guide should directly address the below topics.  Use each of these topics as headings within your paper to ensure that you directly respond to each.  You should respond with at least a paragraph for each topic/heading.Identify and summarize the purpose of your interview.  How will the information you gather be used?Explain how you will structure the interview and your reasoning behind the structuring of the interview. Include a list of topics you plan to cover.Compose the questions you will use to obtain the information (develop a minimum of 15-20 questions). Be sure that you develop a minimum of 5 open and 5 closed ended questions.Develop a minimum of 5 examples of paraphrasing, summaries, or
reflections techniques that could be used during your interview (must have at least one of each paraphrase, summary, and reflection). When you conduct your actual interview, these exact examples you create may not fit depending on the responses of your interviewee, but it is important to start thinking now about how you will incorporate these techniques.  For this Interview Guide assignment, develop hypothetical examples of each type of technique.Identify the opening techniques you will utilize to build rapport with the volunteer/client.Identify types/examples of questions you want to avoid during interview.

Include an Analysis Summary:

In addition to the Interview Guide include an analysis (2-3 paragraphs) of your own preliminary thoughts about this client based on the limited information you have about this client. Have you ever known a person with chronic headaches or sleep problems? What is your “gut reaction” to hearing about a patient with chronic headaches and problems sleeping? That the person is a complainer? Is he/she a victim of terrible illness? Spend some time examining your thoughts and attitudes. It is normal for all of us to make at least preliminary assumptions about everyone we come in to contact with, and a good interviewer has awareness of his or her preliminary assumptions. Include the following in your analysis:Identify your own beliefs (sympathetic, unsympathetic, or some mixture of both) and explain how these could affect your interview. Do you think that your beliefs are influenced by your own age, cultural, gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity?Identify steps you can take to limit the impact of your own beliefs on the interview. Be as specific as possible.

Discipline Literature Review

I need a 7 page paper on the following assignment:

For this discipline-based literature review, you will research peer-reviewed articles that were published within the last 10 years in the Ashford University Library on the following major perspectives of personality.PsychodynamicBehavioralTraitLearning/SocialHumanistic

You will utilize your researched article to create your literature review. The review should be formatted with the headings and content designated below.

Assess the types of personality measurements and research designs used in in the peer-reviewed articles you researched. Briefly describe the main theoretical models represented within each of the perspectives of personality and explain the commonalities found across all five.

Examine the major theoretical approaches, research methods, and assessment instruments used in the five perspectives of personality. Evaluate and describe the current research in these perspectives using a minimum of one peer-reviewed article for each of the five required perspectives. Present a detailed critique of each of the perspectives by evaluating the standardization, reliability and validity, and cultural considerations present in the most common personality assessments used within each. Support your opinions about each model by substantiating them with scholarly research.  Be sure to include the following:The theoretical framework(s) for the selected modelsThe major contributors to those fieldsThe methods of inquiry and assessment usually associated with those modelsAn overview of the characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses of the models

Provide a summary of your evaluation addressing the current use and relevance of these perspectives in explaining personality citing research as appropriate.

Which Family Therapy Technique Is It?

Read the scenarios below and identify which family therapy is being used and how you as the therapist would treat the individuals.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith have been having trouble with their teenage daughter. The daughter never seems to do her chores and throws a tantrum when she isn’t allowed to go out with her friends to an unsupervised party. The daughter is constantly yelling at her parents and telling them they aren’t fair and that she hates them. The therapist listens to the daughter’s complaints and says he understands what she is saying. The therapist tells the daughter that it sure must be difficult not to be allowed to go over to her friend’s house for a party.

Mrs. Johnson is tired of her son threatening her when he doesn’t want to listen to her ask him to do something. She gets so frustrated because he sleeps until noon, gets up and makes breakfast and leaves a mess in the kitchen, and then sits around most of the afternoon watching TV and snacking on junk food. She repeatedly asks him to clean up his messes and help out around the house. He just yells at her and says it is her job and that if she doesn’t stop nagging him he is going to knock her around. She is so fed up that the family goes to a therapist. The therapist asks Mr. Johnson if he does any disciplining of the son and he answers that he is away at work all day and doesn’t want to deal with it when he gets home. The therapist suggests that Mr. Johnson help with the son. She also suggests that maybe one or two nights a week, they (Mr. and Mrs. Johnson) could go out to dinner by themselves and maybe to a movie to spend some quality time together.

Mr. and Mrs. Gomez have three small children and find that lately they are arguing over everything concerning their children. They argue about when the children should go to bed, what foods they should eat, and what TV shows they should watch. They finally break down and go to see a therapist. The children say that their parents are accommodating and just enforce the rules. The therapist asks the parents about their relationship with each other. Mr. and Mrs. Gomez insist their relationship is fine, but they argue about the children and the children are the problem.

James has been missing a lot of school in the past two months. Both his mother and father work full-time jobs and leave the house before he does in the morning and get home after him in the evening. They weren’t even aware of his delinquency until the school called the father at work the other day to say that if James missed any more classes he wouldn’t pass the school year and would have to repeat the same grade again next year. The parents feel as though James is out of control and are at their wit’s end. They all go into family therapy. The therapist tries to explain that what is occurring is not only James’ fault, but it is a “family” problem. She asks each parent if there is anything they could have done differently in their parenting to change the problem.

Practice Child Counseling Skills

For this discussion, you are to create a two-page transcript of a hypothetical counseling interaction, including the skills of reflection, paraphrase, and summarization, in order to practice adapting skills and techniques for use with children.

Imagine that you are a counselor creating a transcript from a recent session. When creating your transcript, adhere to the following:

·       Choose either a child or an adolescent. You may wish to use the client you created for your background sketch in Unit 1.

·       Begin by writing a one- or two-sentence narrative indicating the issue being discussed, such as concerns about schoolwork, sadness about a lost pet, or anger about getting grounded.

·       Complete a counseling transcript, using the instructions below.

o   Each comment or question by a counselor must have the skill and counselor purpose or counselor intention clearly identified.

o   Use a range of skills from the list of Universal Counseling Skills, on pages 84–85, in Counseling Children.

Take a few minutes to carefully examine the example of a transcript and transcription instructions below and in the Counseling Transcript Template, linked in Resources. Then, develop your own transcript. Be sure to follow the instructions. Upload your completed transcript to the discussion.

4.    Counseling Transcripts should have three columns.

0.    The left-most column designates who was speaking—the client or the counselor.

1.    The center column depicts what was said.

2.    The third column labels the skill that the counselor used and the counselor’s intentions [in brackets].

3.    The skill should come from the list of Universal Counseling Skills in Counseling Children, pages 84–85.

4.    The intention should apply one of the Purposes listed in the text’s table to the interaction with the client.

5.    Each talk turn should be on its own row.

6.    You may use the template linked in Resources after deleting the instructions, or create your own form that meets Specifications 1 and 2. Add more rows if necessary.

7.    Your transcript should be no more than 2 pages long.

8.    Please be sure to cite two sources in this discussion. You may cite them in the third column to indicate what sources you used to identify the universal skills you used.

Assignment 1: LASA 2: Memory Training in Older Adults

One of the cognitive changes older adults worry about and fear most is memory loss. Some older adults may assume that any memory loss means that they are developing dementia. However, some memory loss that occurs with aging is normal and can be managed by understanding why it occurs and using memory-training exercises to reduce its impact.

Use your module readings and the Argosy University online library resources to research memory training for older adults. Select an authoritative research article for use in this assignment.

Based on the article and one of the cognitive theories covered in your readings, design your own study that tests a program for memory training in older adults. In your paper include the following:An overview of the changes in memory abilities that occur with aging. This overview should include a description of the difference between normal memory loss that occurs with aging and memory loss that is due to dementia. Review at least one cognitive theory discussed in the readings.

A summary of the research article you chose. The article should provide evidence in support of memory training programs for the elderly such as the one you are proposing.

 The hypothesis of your study.

Described the methodology of the proposed study including the age range of the participants, and participant variables such as: 1) age, 2) gender, 3) level of education, 3) SES, 4) level of cognitive functioning, etc.  Ethical considerations should also be discussed.

The details of your memory training program, such as: 1) the specific aspects of memory loss your training would target, 2) how long the training sessions would last, and 3) the measurements you would use to determine whether your training resulted in significant improvement in memory.

 Your expected results.

A discussion of whether you would expect any differences based on individual variables such as gender, socio-economic status, level of education, race, ethnicity, etc. Provide reasons for your answer.

Your paper should include a title page with a running head, an abstract and a reference page. The body of the paper should be at least 5 pages in length. It should be double-spaced and in 12 point, Times New Roman font with normal one-inch margins, written in APA style, and free of typographical and grammatical errors.

Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M5_A1.doc.
